How to Start the Crane Criminals Quest in Xenoblade Chronicles 2
The Crane Criminals sidequest in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the Nintendo Switch is a Gormott-based mission that tasks players with investigating a broken crane in the bustling town of Torigoth.
To initiate the quest, travel to Gormott Province and head to Saets Lumber Co. in Torigoth. Speak to Pettle, who will explain that someone has vandalized the city's crane. He will ask you to gather clues from around the town to identify the culprits.
Finding the Torigoth Information NPCs
Your first objective is to gather information from three specific NPCs scattered around Torigoth. While some are easy to spot, others require a bit of platforming.
1. Rahim (Atop the Watchtower)
Head toward the Torigoth Arch entrance. Climb up the wooden watchtower nearby to find Rahim. Speak to him to receive the first piece of information, "Broken Crane 1."
2. The Rooftop NPC (Saets Chief's Residence)
Finding the NPC on the roof can be tricky if you do not know where to climb. Follow these steps to reach them:
- Navigate to the merchant lane near Cafe Savvy.
- Look for a stack of wooden boxes nearby.
- Climb these stacked boxes to reach the mid-roof areas.
- Cross the connecting wooden planks to walk over to the roof of the Saets Chief's Residence, where the NPC is waiting.
3. The Third NPC
Locate and speak to the final designated NPC within Torigoth to complete your investigation and piece together the location of the suspects.
Locating the Giant Tree and the Culprits
Once you have gathered all three pieces of information, the clues will point to a giant tree located outside the city walls.
How to Reach the Giant Tree
To find the tree, exit Torigoth from the side where the crane is located. Head out into the open fields of Gormott and walk toward the nearby lake. Look to the hill on the left side of the lake to spot a giant tree featuring a built-in wooden platform. Walk up to the tree and climb the ladder inside it to reach the platform.
Time Restrictions & The Battle
Before you can confront the culprits, you must manage the in-game clock.
- Time Warning: You cannot complete this objective during the day. Specifically, the quest objective at the giant tree cannot be completed between 12:00 and 19:00.
- Nighttime Requirement: Change the in-game time to nighttime.
Once it is dark, you will face the two culprits behind the broken crane: Infallible Tirkin and Resourceful Tirkin. Engage them in battle and defeat them.
Completing the Quest
After defeating the duo, return to Saets Lumber Co. and report your findings to Pettle. Instead of receiving a harsh punishment, the prank-loving Tirkins are put to work for the city to pay off their debt and help repair the crane, successfully concluding the quest.
